4.5weeks ago i broke my finger in my soccer game. "that's strange," you may think, "soccer doesnt involve hands." but, falling, on the other hand (haha), often involves fingers. basically, my body came down on my left hand and broke my pinky. stupid body. my finger was limply hanging as i drove myself to the ER. the dr. said i would need surgery to realign the bone--it wasnt just broken, but also rotated. my father, being the dr. that he is, insisted i come home for surgery, so one of his buddies he trusts could do the surgery. i flew home to san diego that night and it was actually really nice to see the fam and the new awesome apartment my parents are living in downtown. the surgery went well and ended with 2 pins in my left pinky. but, as of yesterday, they are gone! my hand doctor here yanked them out yesterday afternoon, which was nothing less than painful. but, getting to wash my left hand for the first time in 4 weeks was truly amazing. as was getting to take a shower without a bad on my arm. unfortunately, i still have to wear the brace until the the bone is strong enough. so if there are a lot of typos in this post--you try typing with a splint on. uuugh!
chili fest 2006
a few of weeks a
go i invited all my friends over for chili fest 2006--chili and more at my place. it was a lot of fun. and, i bought a crock pot to cook some of this chili in. i cant wait to cook more in the crock pot. unfortunately, it's been 3 weeks or so, and i have yet to use the crock...ill blame that on my finger, too. my chef friend adam also joined in the cooking. he brought bread pudding and it was out of this world.my new cousin (once removed)
just a few short weeks ago, my cousins agi and roger (who live in san antonio) had their second baby girl named magdelena (magi). i was lucky enough to get to go see magi when she was only days old. so beautiful. i also got to see zofia, the big sister. she seems so mature now, compared to her new younger sister.
oh how i love visitors
last weekend, i was lucky enough to recieve a visit from lindsey a. christofferson. oh did we have a good time. it was so nice to have a whole weekend to spend with her--just time to hang out. its been a long time since we were ab
le to do that. we did all the austin basics . there were so many good memories. i think the best part was...well, actually, i cant really choose....
1. lindsey experiencing the enormity that is our 80,000 sq. ft. wholefoods
2. enjoying the amazing weather while jogging around townlake
3. dancing at vicci, while the bubbles fell from the ceiling
4. getting a splinter in my bottom at brunch
5. late night pancakes at kerbey lane, complete with a big spill of water all over my pants
6. lins buying a burnt orange shirt at the co-op
7. checking out the turtle pond on campus
more visitors are more than welcome...!
my summer plan
although i am no longer a student i am still blessed with a mini-summer break. i will fly into the bay area the weekend of may 21st, along with annie, for a weekend of seeing friends and family,, and participating in bay to breakers, the big run/walk in san francisco. a lot of people dress up crazily. any ideas? i will stay up there for a few days and then fly home for about a month. during this month, dorie will come to san diego and then join me for a roadtrip up the coast of cali. we will make a lot of stops along the way, so if we will pass your region, let me know. i want to see as many of the people i love as i possibly can.
this past weekend
life has not been boring or anything less than wonderful. the weather is perfect (i told my mom i wish i could bottle it and save it--in 2 months it will be death by heat) and i have been having lots of fun. this past weekend was full of late nights and sleeping in, like a true college student. also, sunday night, my friends and i made a trip to wholefoods, got ingredients and cooked a gourmet meal:
salmon
couscous
asparagus
spinach salad with sauteed shitake mushrooms and apricots (and homemade dressing)
bread with roasted garlic spread
sounds good huh? it was. the company was pretty good too.
ncaa tournament
ugh. no comment.
randoms
just so you feel you really know what my life is like, here are a few random thoughts. i really like a few shows right now...top chef and americas next top model. im not looking forward to passover, except matzah brei. did anyone subscribe to gourmet magazine for me? i get it now, and i dont know why or how. i really need to clean out my car. i think it has one of everything jewish in it. within the next few days, i will be cutting my hair. not chopping it off, but getting a more sophisticated style, with some layers. i still love grapefruit, and have one every morning. i miss you all. a lot. did i mention i love visitors?
